The year 2024 holds many challenges in terms of innovation and research. Our affiliates will contribute to the following objectives:

Develop existing research teams and expand the scope of The Sense

Facilitate and initiate new collaborations within The Sense, particularly in interdisciplinary aspects

Successfully complete and sustain ongoing projects through economic valorization pathways and develop new projects

Contribute to the development of the founding institutions (for example, in terms of infrastructure)

Promote research and innovation activities

Increase visibility of The Sense, particularly among the public

Integrate The Sense into institutional structures

Sleep & Dreams | Francesca Siclari

My objectives

My goals include developing new collaborations, continuing to expand my research team to strengthen it, as well as submitting funding proposals to support our research projects.

Neurodevelopment | Juliane Schneider

My objectives

Completion of Marion Décaillet's PhD thesis on the NeuroNeo research project and initiation of the Ki-Ck fMRI project, with prospects for its future development to support our research projects.

Multisensory Processes | Michela Bassolino

My objectives

The team will work towards finalizing the data collection and analysis for the ARBORELE project, as well as advancing the HAND-in-HAND project (project funding by the FNS, preparation of an initial manuscript, preparation of the new configuration) and ATTENTO (Health Domain of the HES-SO, finalization and testing of the new configuration). Two manuscripts will be finalized and submitted.

Multisensory Processes | Micah Murray

My objectives

I'm eagerly awaiting the MELD consortium involving The Sense along with external colleagues, as well as the start of the I AM for Healthy Ageing project in partnership with the Leenaards Memory Center.

Pain & Interoception | Chantal Berna Renella

My objectives

For 2024, my main goals are as follows: Ensuring the implementation of the projects and funding obtained in 2023. Developing new collaborations and securing funding within Sense and beyond. Continuing to coordinate the "Perception and Cognition" axis.

Real-world neuroscience | Antoine Widmer

My objectives

I will be spearheading interdisciplinary projects in the thematic area of objective detection related to mental health.

Real-World Neuroscience | Erica van de Waal

My objectives

My main objectives are to ensure the institutional sustainability of my research group and to continue developing new collaborations within The Sense.

Real-World Neuroscience | Paul Matusz

My objectives

My objective is to make substantial advancements in uncovering the role of attentional processes within the scope of my projects on autism diagnosis and developmental vision rehabilitation.

Chemical Senses | Sandra Galle

My objectives

In general, expectations for 2024 would involve significant progress in research and method development, with a focus on advancing scientific understanding and practical applications in the field of flavor perception and sustainable food development.

Human Movement Biomechanics | Julien Favre

My objectives

Strengthening our collaborations with other members of The Sense, particularly through the development of new ambitious projects linking the senses to movement.

Inclusive Physical Rehabilitation | Lara de Preux-Allet

My objectives

Translate the research findings into operational strategies and policies to promote inclusive rehabilitation practices at the local, national, and international levels. Provide mentoring and training opportunities for early-career researchers and students interested in pursuing research in inclusive rehabilitation.

Vision & Sight Recovery | Olivier Collignon

My objectives

More research and investment in new collaborative projects with other members of Sense (collaborative projects currently underway with Professor Micah Murray and Professor Erica Van de Waal).

Knowledge Management & Data Streams | Jean-Paul Calbimonte

Achieve the milestones of ongoing projects and consolidate the team that grew last year.

Neurodevices | Benedetta Franceschiello

My objectives

We are finalizing documentation and grant applications in healthcare while advancing our projects and strengthening inter-researcher collaboration within The Sense.

Neurodevices | Alena Simalatsar

My objectives

The plan is to continue working on ongoing projects and to submit 4 new ones.
In addition to publications, the work will be presented at various workshops.

Data Sciences | Henning Müller

My objectives

We are starting the European project Hereditary at the beginning of 2024, with the commitment of two post-docs and one doctoral student. Two new projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation will commence in the summer of 2024, with the recruitment of two additional doctoral students and two post-docs for the team (one project with the Valais Hospital and another with the University of Bern, EMPA, and the University of Florence).
